Bisenti is a small town in Abruzzo that remains largely preserved in the centre and offers all facilities as regards banks, shops etc.
A delightful town of the Fino valley particularly involved in the growing-cultivation of grapes and in the production of wines. The origins of the Bisenti are very ancient (even Plinius talked about Beretre) and it has always been an important defensive place as it is testified by the medieval castle. In the 16th century Bisenti was included in the so called Stati Farnesiani. This typical town is situated at an altitude of 275 m above sea level and it has a population of about 2500 inhabitants. Among the most important events is the feast of the Emigrant in July and in August the feast of Madonna degli Angeli. Of the ancient settlement are the ruins of the Iron age.During the Italic period the toponym turned from Vesentia in Visentum, when the site belonged to the municipality of Pinna. In the Middle Ages the first documents mentioned this village.
Each year on the 17th of January, the residents of Arsita, in collaboration with the towns of Cermignano, Tossicia, and Bisenti celebrate the Feast of Saint Antonio Abate. Another festival features the townsfolk dressed up in costumes representing the 12 months of the year.
On the first sunday of October each year... and its well worth a visit... in fact it lasts outside the Sunday...but that's the main day is the Bisenti wine and folklore festival with parades ,food and of course this rare wine produced only in the comune of Bisenti and parts of Cermignano... and is essentially a white wine, sparkling and only produced from the Montonico vine
WEe have a good friend that works with the Pro Loco of this small town and so it is with pleasure that we publish his site of events in Bisenti although i have to say its in Italian but the pictures and words give a good idea of life in this small community.
